From 2025, all establishments for disabled people in France will be subject to controls. Announced by the government, this initiative aims to combat the mistreatment of elderly and disabled people. Inspectors will ensure respect for fundamental rights, with an emphasis on preventing abuse, according to the Ministry of Elderly and Persons with Disabilities.
Around 9,200 structures, including IMEs, nursing homes, specialized homes and Esat, will be inspected. This action arises from the “General States of Mistreatment” of 2023, involving various social actors.
Following a report from our colleagues on the M6 channel revealing shortcomings in the disability sector, in particular an EMI in poor condition prohibiting access to worried parents, the government reacted. Parents who observed abuse of their autistic child also testified. In response, Minister Fadila Khattabi initiated an inspection to assess EMI care, with results expected at the end of the year.
